In 1791 Selina, Countess of Huntingdon, acquired the building and moved her theological college here, renaming the place Cheshunt College. In 1871 the college was rebuilt and in 1905, the buildings were bought by the Church of England who used them as a Bishops' college. In 1969 this college closed and the buildings, which have been extensively refurbished, now belong to Broxbourne Borough Council who lease part of them to the County Council as Registrar's offices.
